Rexx Mine Transport Vehicle
Australia's Bis said that Rexx, a 20-tire mine truck, had arrived at Granny Smith Gold Mine in Western Australia to undertake a difficult transportation task.
Granny Smith Gold Mine, located near Laverton and owned by Gold Fields, feels that the dual-powered 20-wheel dump truck is capable of carrying thousands of tons of waste from the Wallaby pit to a yard 15 kilometers away.
Brad Rogers, chief executive of Bis, said the operation not only takes full advantage of Rexx's advantages, including its versatility and long-distance transport capability, but also provides a good environment for further testing the vehicle in different environments.
"Rexx has performed very well in this mine. It can transport 160 materials out of the pit at a time, showing great strength." He said, "Rexx has completed many full-load ramp start-ups, which is also part of the test content in the trial run phase."
Rogers also points out that Rexx has four times the long-distance transport capacity of competing models, and the on-demand power system reduces fuel consumption. The vehicle carries enough fuel for at least two 12-hour shifts without stopping to refuel.
Andrew Bywater, general manager of Granny Smith, said: "Our adoption of innovative technologies throughout mining operations is a good example of how we can cooperate and make progress in the industry. We see this as an opportunity to explore potential efficiency gains in truck transportation, and we are encouraged by the current situation.
Before Granny Smith, Rexx had been fully tested at Murrin Murrin Mine in Glencore, and its excellent capabilities reduced operating costs by 30% compared with traditional trucks. The vehicle also operated in mines below the groundwater level and was able to handle viscous and slippery surface conditions easily, Bis said.
According to Rogers, Rexx's versatility, such as the interchangeable truck bucket, has attracted not only the interest of the resource industry in Australia and around the world, but also the attention of the construction and civil industries. Rexx is Bis'best innovative product for users.
Bis has been selected as Australian Financial Review's most innovative company award, which will be announced in August.
